O livro tem por objetivo mostrar como a saúde do corpo e a da alma são a saúde da pessoa e que, por tanto, não se pode separar os cuidados médicos da busca de uma vida espiritualmente sadia. O ser humano é um todo e a medicina deve abordá-lo como tal, por isso a denomina medicina holística.
A terapia holística foi praticada desde a Antigüidade, pelo próprio Hipócrates. Quando hoje tomamos consciência da medicina natural estamos, no fundo, voltando às perspectivas holísticas das origens. A medicina é um verdadeiro sacerdócio e o sacerdócio, medicina, pois o padre não pode descurar de cuidar dos que o procuram, na sua busca de Deus.
